19. 11.

OOD John Mole and Gavin Wright

The day promised cool conditions and 15 to 20 knot winds from the south west. Peccadillo and Dynamic Duo were to start in Division E and Dream On, Beaujolais and Little Miss (formerly Sofa) in Division F. Four shipping movements were to occupy Hopetoun and Corio Channels so a course starting at St Helens, dog-legging around City 2 to the West Cardinal Mark off Steampacket Place, then out to CB2 near Point Henry and doglegging around Hopetoun 14 and Corio 2 to the finish at St. Helens was set.

The start sequence was half gone before Peccadillo, hastily hoisting sails, appeared from the boat harbour and headed directly for the start line. Dynamic Duo was lying in waiting but Peccadillo, crossing 24 seconds after the start signal, still beat Dynamic Duo by some 20 seconds and both headed for the West Cardinal Mark.

Division F saw Dream On start right on time, closely followed by Beaujolais, with Little Miss crossing 40 seconds later.

By the West Cardinal Mark, Dynamic Duo was well clear of Peccadillo and held the lead to CB2. Dream on was well clear of Beaujolais and Little Miss, struggling in the brisk conditions, was well back. After CB2, Dynamic Duo snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by attempting a kite on the very shy reach, letting Peccadillo through to the lead. So it stayed to the finish. In Division F, Dream On held the lead though Beaujolais closed the gap and Little Miss finished well back.

After handicaps were applied, Peccadillo won both Club and YV in Division E; Beaujolais won Club and Dream On won YV in Division F. Congratulations to all and thanks to Gavin for OOD assistance.
