To all GTYC members

Some up to date news that I need to share with all members:

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle fund raiser, Saturday 13th February

Last Saturday a small group of members raised approx $850 for the Club by conducting a sausage sizzle outside of Bunnings Corio. Many thanks to all who assisted, with special thanks to Barry Palich and Paul Graham for their work in organising the event. Well done to all.

As well as the sausage sizzle promoting the Club, jim Bland kindly lent his boat and time to further promote trailable yachting in Geelong. There was quite a bit of interest in the boat and we collected many names to follow up for membership. Thanks Jim

Go Sailing Day, Saturday 13th March

At the Sausage Sizzle promotion at Bunnings we advertised the next Go Sailing day at the Club. This will be on Saturday 13th March, starting at 2 pm. We would like to get as many Club boats as possible on the water on this day, as we have quite a few people who have indicated that they will participate. Mark this date on your calendar and let’s see if we can get as many boats as possible on the water to show these newcomers what sailing on a trailable boat is all about.

On the evening of the Go Sailing Day we will be conducting a BBQ at the Rotunda, followed by a General Meeting and a talk/demonstration of solar panels. Steve the Solar Panel man will have solar panels foe sale at very good prices. The next day, the 14th is a Club racing day, so why not make a weekend of it, Go Sailing on Saturday, BBQ and Solar Panels, overnight at St Helens and two races on Sunday!!

Generous donation from our sponsor, Four Winds Marine.

Over the weekend of 6th and 7th February GTYC hosted the Sonata State Championships. On the Saturday evening we had a very successful night with the Sonata and GTYC people getting together for a very entertaining and informative talk on safety items from Club member and sponsor Roger Bennett. During the night Roger auctioned a inflating life jacket to the highest bidder, with all proceeds of the sale going to GTYC. I am happy to report that as a result of this sale $150 was donated to the Club, with instructions from Roger that it be used for safety items in the Club. Thanks Roger and Four Winds Marine.

Yarra River Cruise

The Yarra River cruise, originally scheduled for the March Labour Day
weekend has been postponed to the weekend of 22nd-23rd May 2010.

I trust this does not inconvenience many members. Put this new date in
your calendar and look out for more news about this Club activity.
